ACME Rug Cleaners - Omaha, NE



In 1903, the founder of Acme Rug Cleaners, Joe Pettit, lived in Wichita, KS. His father was one of the pioneers of carpet cleaning in that area. Cleaning carpets at that time was done with a hose pulled from a gasoline powered vacuum mounted on a horse drawn wagon. As a young man Joe moved to Lincoln, NE. while there, he worked in the carpet cleaning business with his brother. In 1928, Joe and his wife Dora moved to Omaha and started Acme Rug Cleaners Inc.
The business began slowly, they managed to pull it through the great depression with hard work and determination the business grew. In 1945 Joe and Dora’s oldest son Bob joined the family business. That same year the business branched out to cleaning carpets and furniture in homes and businesses in the Omaha area. In 1951, the youngest son Jerry joined the family business. In 1954 Acme Rug added onto their facility creating Omaha’s only rug cleaning plant.
At that time it was a massive investment in the future of Acme Rug Cleaners. The plant is still in operation today. Every rug cleaned by Acme Rug is still done by the same method. A lot of competitors say they have a rug cleaning plant. WE actually do!! In 1963, Joe Pettit passed away. Bob took over the business, while his mother Dora remained involved in the business to the amazing age of 90! That determination and work ethic has been passed down from generation to generation of the Pettit family.
In 1966, Bob’s oldest son Roger entered into the family business, followed by Jerry’s son Steve also joining the business in 1969. The father and son combination would continue to grow the business to a premier carpet cleaning company in the Omaha area over the next 3 decades. In 1991, Roger’s oldest son Matthew became the 4th generation of the Pettit family to join the business. One year later, Bob and his Brother Jerry retired passing the reins over to Roger to continue the tradition of quality service Acme Rug Cleaners customers have grown accustomed to.
Today, Acme Rug Cleaners is still owned and operated by the Pettit family. Roger and Matthew continue to provide the quality of service that customers have grown to expect from a 4th generation family business. We are proud to say that it is because of those customers we are in our 82nd year serving the city of Omaha and surrounding areas. You can be assured that you will receive the same quality of services that we were founded on all the way back in 1928.
